Polaris Marine Group had plenty to do achieve on this project where the Marine division of the company provided overwater support for the construction phase of the new bride ahead of handing over to the Polaris Marine Construction team for the demolition of the old bridge. At one point, there was a stage where you could nearly walk from one side of the river to the other on Polaris Marine Barges.
The demolition task was the removal of the old Nelligen Bridge. In structure a 7 span, 5000t concrete bridge that stretched 255m over water. Planning the Demolition, the sequencing and execution was performed completely in house by Polaris Marine Construction and was executed without incident.
Complete encapsulation was required for this project and our engineers designed a suspended temporary work deck that was enclosed with geotextile for the capture of fine debris and a gutter/drainage system for the collection of concrete slurry. All the removed components were relocated, wire sawed and managed on site with the steel & concrete processed and sent for recycling.
A true display of what our company’s capabilities are in demolition, with added challenges of operating over water, in a marine park adjacent to primary produce oyster stocks and open navigable waterways.
