About Kendall Bay – Sediments Remediation, Bubble Curtain & GC Capping

This project involved the overwater transport, placement, and capping of sand and armour materials, requiring precise coordination and environmental management. Specialised environmental control measures were designed and installed to minimise impact, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Two dedicated teams operated across multiple work fronts simultaneously to optimise efficiency. Key tasks included the laydown of GAC sheet (geotextile fabric) with sand and armour rock capping to provide structural stability and erosion protection.

Structural works involved the removal of a sheet pile wall using underwater Broco cutting equipment, allowing for a controlled and safe demolition process. Additionally, barge-based excavation works were carried out with GPS guidance, ensuring precise excavation to achieve nominal levels for sand and rock placement.

This project demonstrated a highly coordinated approach to marine construction, integrating precision, environmental responsibility, and innovative methodologies.

Project Summary

Client – Ventia
Project Value – $4,100,000.00
Completion Date – October 2020

Key Achievements

Design and implementation of an underwater bubble curtain, used for containment of suspended solids, to allow vessels to pass in and out of a worksite contained within a silt curtain.
Design and implementation of a steel framing system that pinned the buoyant GAC capping fabric to the seabed, allowed for rock capping layer to be laid and the frame extracted for continued use.
