Seabed Services Pipe Line Deployment

Requiring a large mooring spread and divers in the water for all stages this project required the closure of Sydney harbors western channel to all traffic.

This closure required the integration of just about every stakeholder in the harbor where the management of this element was just a crucial as the deployment task its self.

The installation activity was one where once started it could not stop so it went around the clock day after day until complete.

With divers working in water up to 21m in depth many dive teams were utilised and were coordinated in and out with divers joining part of the above waters works crew once bottom time had depleted for that shift.

Above the water on the deck of the deployment vessel we set up to mechanically group 3 different size lines to make a single unit from individual transport spools.  Within this assembly process we also designed a clamping system to hold the pipe line still for welding to create a single continuous length of each line between spools.

We designed and manufactured a special clamp to group 3 different size lines and attach to a sinker cable as the pipes were positively buoyant during deployment from the surface to the sea floor until retained.

Once the pipeline was in position on the sea floor we then retraced our steps and covered the line with precast grout mattresses.
